14 Week Gender Ultrasound Fun!

14 Week Gender Ultrasound Fun!

2nd Trimester comes with so much joy naturally, with increased energy, motivation to work out, and the strength to cook again! I’m still taking daily naps, and almost certainly wake up with waves of nausea, but if it means I can get on the treadmill again AND eat more than pizza, and Mexican food - I’ll take it!

Yesterday we were able to knock out one of the most exciting tasks on our checklist, and that was to get our gender anatomy scan! We elected to go to a 3d/4d Ultrasound Clinic because as most mommas know- insurances don’t cover a medical gender ultrasound until your 20 week mark unless your pregnancy is considered high-risk. My sister planned the evening, and I was so happy to have her by my side on this really fun day.

Our appointment was at a place in Vegas called Miracle in Progress.

Our appointment was at a place in Vegas, called Miracle in Progress. It was a really cute little clinic on the Southwest part of town, and It was a really fun appointment because the experience was so different than a traditional ultrasound that you would get at your doctor’s office.

The studio was warm, and inviting. They have several 3d and 4d ultrasound packages that are available for purchase in both black and white, and color. Miracle in Progress also offers maternity and baby photography sessions which I thought was pretty cool.

The Ultrasound room was huge!

The Ultrasound room was huge!

I was literally taken back by how large the ultrasound room was! They have comfy couches and chairs. It’s large enough for you to fit at least 15 people in the room! I already can’t wait to go back in my third trimester for an after-brunch viewing party with my family when my baby’s facial features are more defined.

They use a HUGE projector to amplify your baby’s heartbeat and display your ultrasound for the whole room to see.

Unlike a viewing with your regular ultrasound tech or doctor, we were able to see our baby movie theatre style on this huge projector. It was so amazing! I swear there was even surround sound during the heartbeat check. These details really made the moment so special, I couldn’t help but tear up watching my baby kick all around inside me, and even suck it’s thumb, and glance straight at the camera.

Before the apt began, I notified the tech that we were going to have a gender reveal, and I really appreciated how discreet she was during the entire viewing making sure to not disclose the gender of the baby. When she saw a perfect opportune moment (with baby’s legs wide open) she politely turned off the monitor briefly so that she could get a few snapshots. Then we were able to return to our scheduled session. The entire viewing lasted about 15 minutes which, (trust me) is a long time to watch baby squirm all around and it’s more time than you’ll ever get when you see your doctor.

The room is kept dark, and there is soft music playing the entire time. It was a really intimate experience.

After the viewing is over you are given time to get dressed and mingle as your photos are printed. I’d imagine if you were finding out the gender of your baby on the spot with all your family and friends in the room it would be a wonderful experience. But- since we wanted to keep the news a secret (for now) we elected my sister as the secret keeper and she was given the gender in this sealed envelope

I was only “allowed” to hold this thing for .5 seconds (long enough to take this pic) before she told me to get my grimy paws off the big secret!

All in all we had such a wonderful experience! 3d/4d ultrasound clinics are able to detect the gender of your baby as early as 13 weeks! If they are unable to determine the sex, they will either refund you your money, or give you a credit to use to come back in when the baby is further along. I’m so excited that SOMEONE finally knows what we are having, and I can’t wait for Travis and I to find out in about a week and a half at our gender reveal! Want to cast your vote? We’re interested in knowing if you’re “team girl”, or “team boy”. Leave a comment below!

Until next time,

McCall
